The Borders: Abbey Towns & Border Strongholds
The green hills of the Scottish Borders offer a landscape etched with conflict, poetry, and breathtaking beauty. Winding along the banks of the River Tweed, the rose-coloured stone ruins of Melrose Abbey appear against the backdrop of the Eildon Hills, holding secrets of medieval monks and the buried heart of Robert the Bruce. Further upstream, the elegant market town of Peebles offers a slower, peaceful rhythm where independent shops and local cafes line the streets. For us, the true character of this region is found in its stone architecture, textile heritage, and the dramatic tales of the Border Reivers.
Just beyond the modern border, we can extend our travels to let you stand beneath the massive fortifications of Alnwick Castle, follow the path of Hadrians Wall, or watch the tide submerge the causeway to Holy Island. Further north toward Edinburgh, Rosslyn chapel offers legendary stone carvings and tales which never fail to leave our guests spellbound.
